PETA are proud to be working with MGDUFF to recruit and train a Machinist Apprentice. This opportunity is a full-time role based at their site in Chichester.
About the role:
Due to the nature of the business with running a foundry, there are critical health & safety regulations in place and insurances only cover staff aged 18+
This is a very physical job, in a hot environment, within a foundry, which involves exposure to molten metals. Work involving manual handling of heavy loads and standing for long periods of time.
As a Machinist Apprentice, you will be trained to become highly skilled in assisting day to day operations of the company’s anode operation.
Your core responsibilities will include:
- Learn to setup and operate manual lathe, metal working machine and CNC laser cutter to produce high quality components
- Follow customer specifications in line with quality procedures to engineering drawings
- Use welders, grinders and other abrasive wheels
- Responsible for housekeeping of work areas
- Learn troubleshooting / fault finding
- Gain knowledge on selecting appropriate tools and materials
Training to be provided:
As a Machinist Apprentice, you will be studying a Level 3 Machining Technician Apprenticeship. Throughout your Apprenticeship with MGDUFF, you will be supported by your company mentor and your PETA Learning and Development Coach.
You will attend PETA’s Havant training centre for off-the-job training, one day per week for 39 months of the apprenticeship.
Overall duration 45 months.
Apprenticeship Progression:
Over time, the role will develop to offer challenging new responsibilities to stretch your capabilities and understanding.
Upon completion of your Apprenticeship programme, there is the potential to be offered a full-time position.

An apprenticeship is all about learning new knowledge, skills and behaviours, therefore, to be considered for this role of a Machinist Apprentice, you must be able to demonstrate a genuine interest in Engineering and a willingness to learn.
