In this apprenticeship, you’ll gain hands on experience working with operational technology networks that support Critical National Infrastructure. You’ll develop the key skills needed to configure, maintain, and troubleshoot industrial grade networking equipment.
As we expand our services to include professional solutions and Service Level Agreements, we’re looking for a driven, motivated, and versatile apprentice to join our technical support team and grow with us.
Training to be provided:
Level 3 IT Support Technician Apprenticeship Standard. You will complete a 22-month apprenticeship which includes 25 days at the PETA training centre in Cosham. You will be supported every 6-8 weeks with visits from your PETA Learning & Development Coach.
About the role:
The Field Service Technician Apprentice will be responsible for the following duties:
- Provide first line technical support via telephone, Teams and email following company procedures
- Work with colleagues to help solve 2nd and 3rd line support cases
- Deliver Westermo Training courses either in the UK and Ireland office, or at a customer premises.
- Prepare and maintain Training equipment
- Visit customers’ sites to carry out any of Westermo’s services portfolio and create site visit reports
- Conduct Wireless site surveys and create reports for the Westermo range of RF related products
- Create and maintain documentation on the connectivity and configuration of products, eg application notes for customers and internal engineering notes
- Assist sales staff in demonstrations of equipment
- Liaise with Westermo suppliers and/or HQ to resolve problems or issues relating to the operation of products
- When necessary assist other members of staff in the testing of customer returns
- Provide feedback on customer requirement and possible product or services opportunities
- Testing of new product firmware releases and new functions
- Occasional testing of 3rd Party products/software for use with Westermo products
- Any other tasks or duties required by the company

Essential Skills:
It is essential that the Field Service Technician Apprentice has the following skills and personal qualities:
- GCSEs in maths and English with at least a grade C/4
- Full clean UK driving licence
- Willing to travel to any customer location in the UK & Ireland
- Prepared to regularly stay away from home overnight
- Practical troubleshooting experience
- High quality written & verbal communication in English
- Good presentation skills
- Excellent customer communication skills
Any offer of employment will be subject to an individual undergoing an enhanced DBS check.
The successful candidate must be 20+ years due to vehicle insurance.
