PETA are proud to be working with VRS Precision Engineering Ltd to recruit and train a Machining Apprentice. This opportunity is a full-time role based at their site in Fareham.
About the role:
As a Machining Apprentice, you will be trained to become highly skilled in manufacturing complex, precision parts and components from specialist materials using various machines:
Your core responsibilities will include:
- Learning how to check materials before starting work
- Becoming competent using technical information such as using drawings, and work packs
- Setting up a range of workholding devices including chucks, colletts and vices
- Learning to programme, set and operate CNC mills and lathes
- Learning about different material for applications manufactured
- Using a range of measuring equipment such as micrometres, verniers and a range of gauges
- Becoming competent with health & safety awareness and general housekeeping in the workshop
Training to be provided:
As a Machining Apprentice, you will be studying a Level 3 Machining Technician Apprenticeship. Throughout your Apprenticeship with VRS Precision Engineering, you will be supported by your company mentor and your PETA Learning and Development Coach.
You will attend PETA’s Havant training centre for off-the-job training, one day per week for 39 months of the apprenticeship.
Overall duration 45 months.
Apprenticeship Progression:
Over time, the role will develop to offer challenging new responsibilities to stretch your capabilities and understanding. Upon completion of your Apprenticeship programme, there is the potential to be offered a full-time position.

An apprenticeship is all about learning new knowledge, skills and behaviours, therefore, to be considered for this role of a Machining Apprentice, you must be able to demonstrate a genuine interest in Engineering and a willingness to learn.
You will also require:
- GCSE Maths and English grade C/4 or above / or equivalent
- A strong work ethic and motivated with a can-do attitude
- Good communication skills
- Team working skills
- Desire to learn and develop with a passion for engineering
- Good manual dexterity
